Both Betsy and Britta are realizing their dream of growing a flower business. Within each of their rural properties will be dedicated space for beds full of bloom. They also need functional workspaces, sheds, visitor access, and privacy. Both want to grow sustainably. Both came to me for a plan that lays out all their sites’ needs in a sustainable and efficient way to meet their long-term goals.

New niche farms like Betsy’s and Britta’s are springing up on what was once traditional agricultural land. The needs are unique to each farm and are often sustainably focused.

What I did

After meeting with Betsy and Britta to determine their landscape needs and goals, I gathered site context and environmental data for their properties, revisted the sites, assessed parcel and zoning restrictions, and generated slope models and site suitability analyses.

From the site analyses I sketched out three concept plans for each farm and presented these in-person to the clients for feedback. Their preferences led me to refine the concepts into a design plan and report for each.
