About
Amplifying weather events continue to impact rural communities in the Upper Great Lakes Region. Extreme winds and lake effect snow batter Door County, Wisconsin’s shorelines. This extreme weather mitigation scenario tool empowers local government officials in Door County to identify and locate specific, locally-relevant, and quantifiable mitigation actions to build winter preparedness.
Our role
Using a suite of ArcGIS Online technology, Silvernail adapted the Green Infrastructure ScenarioStudio for extreme weather in Door County. In this prototype of Resilience ScenarioStudio focused on extreme wind and snow events, we created a multi-page experience that invites local officials to use their knowledge of conditions to design and evaluate mitigation scenarios. Here users can:
- Start on a Welcome page with a guide to the tool
- Jump to the Vulnerable Areas page to sketch in areas known to be especially vulnerable to snow drifting in their juridiction.
- Go to the Mitigation page, where they can select a Scenario and sketch in ideas for windbreaks near vulnerable areas.
- Use a packaged set of Analysis tools to assess how effective their windbreaks will be at reducing snow drifting
- View the cost and performance results by Scenario in the Dashboards.
